Friends Who Care

Friends Who Care

Started in 1999. I had watched a TV documentary on what the Salvation Army was doing for children affected and effected by HIV/Aids. The Holy Spirit kept nudging me to get involved. I started by inviting five friends to join me at home once a month and to bring any articles they were able to make. A social worker came to our meetings to collect our donations. For the next 3½ years we met in my lounge, but we had too many members. We asked to use the church facilities. There is no doubt in my mind our Lord has led and inspired us. He has always provided us with willing hands and replenished our resources. To every new item we attach a little heart shaped label with the words “Jesus loves you”. We pray that this will send a message that our Lord is a caring and loving Lord. This is our way of “Touching Lives together with Jesus”. These donations are recorded and distributed to those in need. Many are children who have had to head up the family or grandmothers who have had to take over the responsibility of rearing their orphaned grandchildren. We have ladies from many denominations involved – Seventh Day Adventists, NG, Hatfield Christian Church, Presbyterians, Roman Catholics, Methodists and at one time even ladies from overseas.
