About Manyano
Women’s Manyano
Way back in the early 1900’s Mrs Florence Brookes had a dream. Her vision was a bold and brave one in a male dominated society that of linking un-cordinated and isolated women’s groups in Methodism into one organisation. Her dream of a countrywide co-ordinated organisation of Methodist women was brought to fruition and has born a rich harvest over many years. Just 40 years later Mrs Brookes dream was extended when Lyttelton Methodist Church opened its doors and a Women’s Auxiliary was established after 16 ladies met in the mornings in the home of Mrs Prue.

From this small beginning grew a vibrant and active Women’s Auxiliary. In 1960 the Women’s Auxiliary boasted with the largest membership in the then Northern Transvaal District. When working women displayed an eager interest an Evening Women’s Auxiliary was established in 1963. Reflecting on the past 60 years these two groups worked together and look back on events presented in the form of functions, fundraisers, and entertainment etc.
Concerts, mini-markets, responsible for hiring out church crockery, fêtes The achievement of winning 1st and 3rd prizes at the Verwoerdburg City Community Fair in 1985 Tracksuit marathons, where we produced track suits for children’s homes Decorating and selling Easter eggs, annually along with Valentines day cup cakes.
The creative talents of our members evidenced in craft workshops where the Manyano sisters also benefitted Banner making for our Sanctuary Catering for Church dinners, community outreach such as hosting food for the St. John’s Church fundraiser, Olievenhoutbosch Christmas party etc. catering for funerals; annual senior citizens teas/brunch Flower festivals, church arrangements. The joy of service in compassion for the elderly or the shut-ins as found in our Country & Postal work Supporting our church missionary, Colleen Assisting in our church crèche Annual Women’s Day Services Each member taking part according to the gifts given to them within the framework of their own personalities.
